Gaming and Gambling Combined?

Posted by Trix on May 21, 2009

An article I read on the internet was discussing the possibility of online casinos being made accessible on Playstation and Xbox. This seriously raised all sort of red flags inside my head.

PLAY NOW!

Barriere Interactive Gaming, a large online casino software provider is in the later stages of developing an online casino game for Playstation and Xbox, as reported by Casino Choice and Casino Top 10. Barriere Interactive Gaming claimed that the new game will allow players to access the online casino through their gaming consoles and play the game on their TV rather than on their PC. Reports have it that Sony and Microsoft have not yet decided whether they would allow Playstation and Xbox users to play real money games though. I would like to think that it is good sense that is making these two giants skeptical.

One of the reasons why Sony and Microsoft have not completely agreed to the new game is the possibility of the game being accessed by minors. I can see why they are not comfortable with the idea. Any bad publicity concerning kids gambling on either game console could damage the company’s reputation. That is too big a possibility to rule out.

I, for one, would not want any of my kids anywhere that concerns gambling, well, not until they are old enough to decide whether it is something they want to do. I am sure there are other people with the same worries. If Barriere Interactive Gaming can convince Sony and Microsoft to go ahead with the original plan then hey, good luck. New ideas to market certain products, especially one that concerns a multi-billion industry has ways to penetrate people, even conglomerates like Sony and Microsoft.
