Problem Gamblers

One of the most controversial issues that keep raising its ugly head is the increase of problem gamblers in the world even with the recession in full swing. Many economists have commented that the recession we are experiencing right now is the worst since the early 1980s. The exchange rates have gone way down. Stock markets from all over the world have declined. Small businesses have closed. Big companies have to reduce wages and work hours. They even had to let some of their employees go. Worst thing about it is the fact that the credit crunch is global and not at all local.
More so, it is being questioned whether the global recession could have really triggered the increase of problem gamblers. This is one of the hottest topics in the internet today. People looking into online gambling as a viable option to earn money is vulnerable to gambling addiction, as what Tom Peterkin discussed in the article he wrote for The Scotsman late of December 2008.
Reports have it that the recession is making gambling problems worse for some. There were also claims that calls to gambling help lines in other countries are soaring.
With the recession biting hard, we can only hope that people can find other ways to avoid the effects of recession without the need to turn into gambling. Gambling has its advantages and disadvantages but it still is and will continue to be a form of entertainment and should not be seen as an investment or a way to earn money.
